Battle of the Drums 2010

Another year of outstanding Garifuna drumming, singing, dancing and poetry. My appreciation goes out to all those who preformed. It was a fantastic night of great entertainment with drummers and dancers from across Belize and Beyond. Entertainers from Dangriga, Seine Bight, Georgetown, Hopkins, Barranco, Punta Gorda, Guatemala and Honduras all took to the stage.

We also got to hear poetry performed by Placencia’s own Raquel Battle accompanied by an incredible solo drummer, Joshua Arana.

For me this year one of the highlights of the night was a performance by students of Galen University that hail from across the globe. Credit must be given once again to Master Drum Instructor Joshua Arana for his dedication to Garifuna drumming. Check out this instructional DVD

And finally congratulations goes out to the top 3, Hopkins, Seine Bight and Barranco, who took the win once again.

Aeriel pictures of flooding in Belize

Check out this site for some aerial pictures of the all the flooding tropical Storm Arthur caused.

Well Tropical Storm Arthur sure left a mess is his path. There wasn’t too much to talk about in the way of winds but boy did we get water. Ironic really, since we had all been moaning about how dry it was and wishing for rain. Well, be careful what you wish for. These pictures were not taken by me. They are courtesy of Megs Yearwood of Barefoot Rentals. Hope your rentals were all on the right side of the river, Megs!

Where did the bridge go?

Red Bank

When it gets hot, which it most definitely is right now, the best place to be is in a nice cool river. The sea is great but when you need to cool down there’s nothing like fresh water. These are from a day trip to the river at Red Bank, which is only just over an hours drive away. Will definitely be going back.
